Saree Refurbished

This is my old saree, which I am very fond of. I planned to wear this saree on previous day of grand family function. But that morning when I wore it and walked few steps it tore at the border, then I had to change.

I couldn't make up my mind to discard the saree, the saree was still usable. So what I did????

Lengthy scarf or shawl????

This pink color shawl was made by reusing yarn from half knitted sweater. Undid, washed the yarn by immersing in mild soap water, let it dry for 4 days, then the difficult part of unraveling and rolling the yarn into ball which was like idiyappam (like noodles), though I took care while soaking. Unraveling took two days, managed with two snips.
Then started knitting this shawl / scarf. Ended up a bit lengthy one as I was going on knitting till I ran out of yarn.

The shawl is folded into four in the picture

Double color crochet bag

Mostly I did this while I waited at daughter's music class. When I was contemplating on an embellishment, she gave me this beautiful flower to fix on the flap which she had saved from her old dress. Now this bag has become a sole property of my her. As she wanted to carry her music class books in it, I gave it a double layer lining with a inside pocket of size to hold cell phone and pen. Actually the handle is bit lengthy for her, but anyway I hope she will be clinging it when she grows up too.

Fancy shopping bag

I was hibernating for some time now. Our laptop crashed. Hence my tablet was seized by my son for his studies, to work out sample question papers. So what was I doing in this break.

1. Give company to my son till late night while he is preparing for exams
2. Breaking my head thinking what to make for snacks, breakfast, lunch, dinner with whatever I hear good for health, so that. he doesn't fall sick and more importantly to ward off his temptation of junk snacking.
3. Waking him up whenever he needed to be
4. I scrambled and took out all yarn bundles which I bought 16 to 17 years ago to knit sweaters for my baby son then to put to some use my time as well those yarns

Settled on this pattern so that I could crochet even while I am half asleep, still pretending to be wide awake. Also was able to complete an audio book Hound of the Baskervilles.

Few sets I made last week

My co-sis had gifted me few strings of red and green beads. I had those pendants and spacers in my stock. Combined everything and you seeing the result. This prompted me to do further few sets, thereby depleting my stock and now waiting for my daughter's exams to get over so that I can go and refill.

Teachers' Day Gift

On September 4th evening by 7.30 my daughter requested to buy few pens as gifts to give her teachers on Teachers' Day, that is on 5th.

We all know all kids love their teachers and they would like  their gifts to be the best one to give their teachers. So I suggested her that I already have four pouches made of stashed fabric which I thought I will put to some use and will make two more which she can give to her all 6 teachers. She was more than happy. Here are those,

These two pouches I made on 4th night from the remaining dupatta cloth after stitching a frock for her long back.

Following are the ones I had already made out of again from cloths after stitching salwars. Embellished with few stones here and there.

What do you do with your Hubby's worn out jeans or if it needs alteration. Here is what I did. I made the jeans into three fourths, the balance one fourth of one leg was transformed as a much useful bottle holder. Click for more to know what I did with another leg. Beware Men folks!!!

My favorite Ganesha from invitation

As a habit I was browsing for some new crafts.  I came across a new term called decoupage.

In a few days time,  my dear hubby brought a wedding invitation of his colleague. The invitation was itself unique, my eye catcher was my favorite Ganesha in that. I had been saving the invitation till the wedding was over, as I didn't want to dent it before the important day.

Fancy storage bag.

This is made for my niece to store her Odiyanam (traditional hip belt.  The shopkeeper advised to store it wrapped in a cotton cloth so that it doesn't loose its shine. Instead of wrapping in a cloth, I thought of making a bag.

Mobile pouch

This is a mobile pouch made from waste material after sewing a salwar for my client.
The blue material is the bottom of salwar, beige is from tops. I got this mango motif uncut from tops while shaping the neck. Sewed with zigzag stitch in my machine. Stitched velcro to secure the opening.
